What is Functional Testing?

Functional testing confirms that the software does what it is supposed to do—each feature, input, and workflow produces the correct result per the requirements. It is behavior-focused and typically black-box: you provide inputs and check outputs without regard to internal implementation. Functional tests span from individual features to complete user journeys, and they form the backbone of most test suites. Recording real feature flows and asserting on their outcomes is a direct, efficient way to build durable functional coverage.
